We did indeed!

There was a terrific atmosphere yesterday and particularly amongst the St George's team. Well done everyone!!

We did it!

Well done to the whole team for all of our efforts yesterday!

I'm feeling very proud of myself for running the whole way even though there were times when it was hard, either because I was getting tired or because I was stuck behind big groups of people going very slowly.

It seemed as though everyone had a great day and I'm pretty sure we've got some fab photos.  Rob will be sending those to me later after he's tinkered with them a bit then I'll post them onto Facebook and Liz will put some up on our website too.

Have a good post-race day! x

Rain Rain Go Away??

Bought new 'Blister proof socks', running leggings and a pink headband today.

Everyone is hoping for no rain, im not so sure.

There is nothing better than a refreshing run in the rain, providing its not freezing.
Im from Scotland where the rain is like Ice Cubes so anything above -5 will be fine.

If its so heavy i can blame my poor time on it :)

London will be busy due to a memorial service for 9/11
Whoever your running for give a thought to the families who lost loved ones on this day.

Happy running everyone, i'll be the bedraggled red faced woman in the pink headband and St Georges's Hospital t-shirt.
Be sure to give me a smile or wave as you all pass me at great speed.

:)

Countdown!

I managed a very slow 5k this morning (37 minutes) and will be mainly resting now until Sunday. I hope that I can achieve a faster time on the day and like Maribel am really looking forward to seeing everyone in Hyde Park on Sunday!

Until then...

Stiff and achy

I've been training 3 times in the last week and my body doesn't know what's hit it!  My legs are achy and my shoulders are stiff, but I did manage to do a warm up 5k run this weekend and feel much more confident about the event this Sunday.  Sheila and I met at Virgin Active and thought we'd see how long it would take us to go the distance.  We achieved very respectable times and even managed to smile while recovering in a heap on the gym floor!

Really looking forward to meeting up with you all on Sunday and well done to everyone for the fundraising efforts so far!

Birthday Done

Now that my birthday is over the true hard work starts, no more junk food and hard training(well from tomorrow as its my baby son's, he's 3, birthday today) Giraffe bound for dinner.
My t-shirt arrived this morning. Looks enormous hope it doesnt fit snug.
Hitting the gym tomorrow night and might even give a run to work too.
Hope all your training is going well.

Now a year old it might take me longer to run :P

Logistical let-down

Despite an excellent run this morning (5 miles with Simon, fairly hilly, in 53 minutes), I am feeling everso slightly despondent. We have realised that it will be far too much of a rush to get Molly from Hyde Park after the race to her best friend's birthday party in Guildford for 1 pm.

Which ever way you look at it, it's nigh on impossible. So, for now, Molly is out.... :(

Buggy runner!

Hi Ladies,

Training for me has got off to a really slow start.
Decided not to make anymore excuses so went running with Gracie (my 15 month-old daughter) in tow, in the buggy. Twice the workout, but might opt for buggy-free trainig next time!

Also hoping for more pleasant weather to do more meaningful training!

Happy running over the long weekend!

Starting and Stopping

Have a huge blister on the underside of my foot :(
Not due to running but due to shopping in London on a sunny day :)

Looks like the rain is here for the duration of the weekend, hopefully i'll be able to train outside. Even though im from rainy Scotland i still hate the rain. Hav to hit the gym i think.

Bank holiday Monday i my birthday so im sure there is a law against working out on your birthday.

Happy Training

Stace xx

Keep going, keep going ...

Not getting out to train as often as I like, but my first running practice on Sunday went well with 20 minutes of running/walking and it felt do-able! Hoping that four days with family might mean I get some 'me-time' so I can sneak off with my i-pod! Must go home and pack my trainers ...

4991

That's my race number! Our packs arrived this morning. I'm quite excited! And pleased with myself - was out at 6.30 this morning, despite the rain. Ran fast, but not far (there and back again really). Then went home and back to bed!!

Holiday and post-holiday laziness

Hands up who went on holiday for a week, lazed around and ate a lot, then had good intentions of catching up with her running when she got back but then didn't... Just me? Ok, I admit it, I've been rubbish with my running recently, but I am determined to get back to my pre holiday fitness.

To be honest, running is not my strong point, but for exactly this reason I'm feeling the need to conquer it because it's a challenge. Since I started doing a bit of running 2 or 3 times a week, I've felt healthier, happier and have been able to fit into my old skinny jeans again (just about!).

So, I'm going to go for a run tonight and I'm saying it on here, because it means I'll be ashamed if I don't do it! It may rain on me, but I'm going to do it anyway.

Wish me luck!

Summertime, and the living is easy...

After yesterday's downpour, it was good to be out running this fine summer morning. Molly rode her bike while I ran - she's faster than me on two wheels as well as on two feet! But there was much bonding...

Three weeks to go; can I lose those elusive three pounds? Time will tell...

Sore Legs!

Hello all,
It's great to hear everyone's updates and to hear how everyone's getting on. Even though I do the bulk of my training alone - it makes you feel part of something bigger (if that makes sense!)

I'm really looking forward to taking part in the 5k, it'll be the 3rd year in a row I've done this race. The race in 2009 really marked the start of my enthusiasm for running and for that I'm really grateful. The buzz at the event is fantastic and to be part of the St Georges team feels very special!

The race takes place 2 weeks before I run the 'Run to the Beat' half marathon - my first ever half. With that in mind I've been trying to get my mileage up and last night completed my first ever 10 mile run (1 hr 40 mins)- although the old legs are a bit stiff today I feel really happy. I even managed to run the second half faster than the first (the motivation to get home for tea cannot be underestimated!)

Hoping to go out and run a fast 5k at the weekend - can't seem to better my PB of 27 mins which was set at the St George's event at Springfield Hosp earlier this year.

Take care everyone and happy training :-)

Jen x

Out before the park gates were open!

I hadn't expected my friend, Helen, to be early this morning. We'd agreed she'd pick me up at 6.30 am. I was enjoying my second cup of tea and hadn't even put my trainers on, when she called!

We got up to the park before the gates were open to traffic - bliss. 5k in about 33 minutes, so very pleased if a little puffed when I left the house again at 8 am to come into work.

First time back in trainers...

Ok, so it's been a very long time since my trainers have seen the light of day ... and now's the time to get some training in for 11th September.

So I attend my first aerobics class in a few years last Sunday (just to limber up and get my heart rate going). Is it a worrying sign when, after the warm up, the instructor turns to me and asks if I'm OK?! She needn't have been concerned though - pleased to say I paced myself for the full 60 minutes, and even threw in a little high impact towards the end.

Perhaps some speed walking this weekend ..... really pleased I joined up and looking forward to the challenge!

Welcome to our blog!

This is our first post and all I can say at this point is that the Fundraising Team are excited about being able to run this race together with some of our very lovely supporters and represent St George's Hospital Charity!

We're inviting the whole team of runners/joggers/walkers to get involved with this blog and write about their experiences throughout the training and in the lead up to the big day in Hyde Park on Sunday, 11th September.

We've also got our own team fundraising page now which can be circulated to friends, family and colleagues so that we can raise as much as possible to support St George's
